She’s a little detached, everyone’s a character, she’s merely an observer. Lexi’s play wasn’t meant to seek vengeance on Nate this is simply how she processes her own world. Not that Lexi doesn’t love her, but Cassie’s older and made some decisions that have helped weave this messy web of drama Cassie’s living in now. I think in reality, she is someone who has a lot of resentment towards Nate, and saw an opportunity to hurt him, and did. All she's done is help Rue and date Fezco, so viewers are uncomfortable with the idea that their stand-in could do something bad. I think people do not consider Lexi capable of doing anything bad, because so far, she hasn't. Lexi was able to take Nate down a peg socially. Maddy did not shout "Lexi you're a fucking G!" because she appreciated any critique of hyper masculinity and it's intersection with blah blah blah, she did it because she's resentful towards Nate and calling people you don't like gay is a common thing among teenagers, and Nate actually liking men makes it hit more.
But Lexi made 'Jake' that way because it would get more laughs, at Nate, and it worked.
Nate has never, even in his interactions with Jules, hinted at being a feminine person. She takes the flamboyant gay stock character (choreographed feminine half-naked dancing, to Bonnie Tyler, no less) and makes him Nate. And it works! The entire audience (of students) erupts in cheering and applause when they see Nate's character associated with homosexuality. And so, with the one piece of leverage she has, she tries to take Nate down by insinuating he's gay/likes men to the whole school. The only thing she has on him is knowing that Nate's insecure in his sexuality/has dicks on his phone. She tried confronting Cassie, that didn't work (and perhaps a realization that her confrontation may have helped drive Cass to Nate amplified Lexi's hatred of him). If there is any villain in Lexi's life right now, it's Nate. Lexi is a 16/17 year old straight girl who's only interaction with male homosexuality is through Nate, the boy who is destroying her sister's life in the months it took for Lexi to make her play.
